Module Aims

This course aims to provide participants with skills in exploring Christian worship. It begins by providing a broad overview of the development of Christian worship from New Testament communities to contemporary societies. Using the insights of ritual studies, liturgical theology and historical research the basic question of why do people worship will be addressed.

The second part of the module will introduce the participants to the Sacraments of Christian Initiation.

• — To reflect critically on the religious practice as expressed in religious ritual
• — To provide a detailed description of the nature and development of Christian worship
• — To explain some of the methods used by liturgists in studying the celebration of the Christian mystery
• — To be able to critically engage with liturgical documents especially the liturgical books
• — To understand the nature and need for liturgical reforms
