Module Aims

This practicum will focus on the foundations and skills of preaching a liturgical homily. The module will offer a specific method for preaching and will build on this method during the module. Special emphasis will be given to preaching and presiding at the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. For those who are not seeking ordination attention will be paid to liturgical celebrations led by the non-ordained.

Learning Outcomes

• — LO 1: explain the key theological terms and issues for preaching at the public prayer of a Christian community.
• — LO 2: articulate the movement of the preparation of a liturgical homily.
• — LO 3: develop competence in being an effective and articulate preacher.
• — LO 4: become comfortable in the role of preaching at liturgical celebrations and to offer and receive feedback on this role.
• — LO 5: prepare and preach during a liturgical celebration showing an understanding of the ritual books required for the task and seek feedback on the homily.
