Module Aims

This module will lead participants to an understanding of liturgy as a primary act of the believing community. It will introduce learners to key terms and concepts of Christian liturgy. Additionally, it will explore theological and human dimensions of liturgy, as well as encompassing liturgical history and ecumenism.

  • Eastern Experience of Liturgy
  • An Introduction to the Sources for the Study of Liturgy.

Learning Outcomes

  • Reflect critically on the religious practice as expressed in religious ritual;
  • Provide a detailed description of the nature and development of Christian worship;
  • The ability to explain some of the methods used by liturgists in studying the celebration of the Christian mystery;
  • Critically engage with liturgical documents especially the liturgical books;
  • Understand the nature and need for liturgical reforms;
  • Explain key terms and concepts of pastoral liturgy.
