Module Aims

This module introduces learners to a Salesian reading of Scripture, engaging with biblical scholarship in fidelity to the Salesian mission to young people and to the contemporary concerns and needs that prompt and shape Salesian pastoral activity. The module aims to equip learners with the principles and skills necessary to begin exploring their own Salesian reading of the Gospel for life and mission in the present day.

Learning Outcomes

  • — Demonstrate an understanding of God’s Word as the source of the Salesian mission to young people, articulating a Salesian reading of Scripture and of the figure and mission of Christ.
  • — Present the biblical background to the Christian understanding of divine revelation.
  • — Distinguish approaches to presenting the faith in specific contexts and present methods for engaging with young people in conversations about faith and personal commitment.
  • — Examine selected key issues facing young people in the areas of work, faith, freedom, and conscience (e.g. technological advances, medical ethics, the global economy, sexuality and gender, diversity) in the light of biblical texts on creation, salvation, eternity, and the human person.
