Student Recruitment Officer

St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth

The Role:

The position of Student Recruitment Officer is a key role in representing the university and building relationships with key external stakeholders to ultimately drive more applications to the university and assist with the strategic objective of growing student numbers in St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth (SPPU).

Key to success in this role is the ability to enthusiastically represent the university at all times.

Duties of the role:

  • Build relationships with second level schools across the island of Ireland.
  • Schedule and deliver school talks to promote the programme offering relevant to School leavers.
  • Engage with Guidance counsellors to ensure they are aware of and can recommend SPPU to appropriate students.
  • Attend meetings and school/career fairs throughout the country as required.
  • Work with SPPU Marketing to enhance the communication of our offering to CAO and other potential Undergraduate applicants, i.e., Mature students.
  • Work closely with the Schools Liaison Officer to jointly deliver our schools programme and provide cover where needed.
  • Ensure administration is up to date and report to the monthly marketing committee.
  • Mentor individual students as required.
  • Be available to advise individual students and their parents/teachers as needed.
  • Represent the university at student recruitment events in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
  • Assist in implementing and building our Postgraduate student recruitment activities, including but not limited to: Open Evenings, relationship building and presentations.
  • Work with marketing to develop plans to grow our Postgraduate offering.
  • Assist in the Admissions processes for all programmes ensuring the integrity and suitability of the student recruitment process.
  • Follow up on all leads and application statuses by phone/email as per SPPU processes.
  • Ensuring emails/letters/phone calls regarding enquiries/applications from students are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
  • As part of the SPPU team , any additional administrative and marketing tasks as delegated by management and other project-based and ad-hoc activities, as part of the overall student recruitment strategy.

The Ideal candidate will have:

Mandatory:

  • A full clean driving license
  • Access to own vehicle to be able to perform the role, successful applicants will be required to obtain business class insurance for their car.
  • Be a self-starter, working independently as required, organising and delivering own work without close supervision of SPPU.
  • Experience of the education sector in Ireland, the CAO and Leaving Certificate and Postgraduate system
  • Effective communication skills to be able to communicate clearly verbally, visually and through the written form.
  • Comfortable at public speaking
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and be available for late evenings and overnight stays as required.
  • Energetic and positive in an ambassadorial capacity on behalf of SPPU
  • An ability to empathise with potential applicants and others such as parents, teachers, guidance counsellors, principals and others in the recruitment process.
  • An ability to gain a deep understanding of our programmes to be able to effectively represent the university and its programmes to external stakeholders.
  • A strong work ethic and a high level of motivation
  • Professional in presentation and approach to stakeholders

Desirable:

  • A third level 8 degree in a relevant discipline
  • Previous experience in the education sector
  • Experience in the use of social media, to be able to effectively promote student recruitment activity.
  • Previous experience of working on own initiative on the road with journey plans.

Other Points to note:

  • Due to the nature of the work flexibility of working hours is required (some weekends and evenings) for Open Events, Registrations, School events, IGC conferences etc. and applicants should note that holidays may not be taken during the peak recruitment period.

Commencement:

This role is available for immediate start up subject to the usual recruitment process, reference checking and notice periods being served. It is envisaged the successful candidate will undertake a period of internal training before commencing.

The role runs from mid-August (date tbc) to end of May each year with pro-rata remuneration.
