A large gathering of colleagues, friends and family were present today in Pugin Hall on the St Patrick's campus Maynooth to wish Michael Lennon well on his retirement. Michael has given exceptional service to both St Patrick's and Maynooth University in his role in the Power House, literally powering both institutions. Over 41 years, Michael has seen it all and kept the campus going through hurricanes, snow storms and pandemics.
Rev Prof Michael Mullaney, President of St Patrick's College thanked Michael for his dedicated service and complimented him on his cool unruffled manner which proved priceless in getting through many a stressful situation. The President commented that Michael is truly irreplaceable.
Also present was Michael's wife Margaret, who was thanked for her patience and support in putting up with his disappearances in the middle of the night or during holiday periods to travel to campus to restore power.
Jonathan Glendinning from Maynooth University also expressed his thanks to Michael on behalf of the University.
Following the speeches and presentations which included an original organ pipe from the College Chapel, Michael received a surprise when Director of Sacred Music, Dr John O'Keeffe on accordion was accompanied by staff in a rendition of 'Are ye right there Michael' by Percy French.
We wish Michael all the best in his retirement and thank him for a lifetime of service to the campus.
