St Patrick’s Pontifical University honours the memory of Fr Wilfrid Harrington, O.P. (1927–2025), who passed away recently at the age of 98. A distinguished biblical scholar, Fr Harrington authored over 40 influential books, many widely translated and internationally respected.
Born in Eyeries, Co. Cork, Fr Harrington (originally named Jack) entered the Dominican Order in 1946. Ordained in Rome in 1953, he completed advanced biblical studies at the prestigious Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem, later becoming a beloved and influential educator. For many years, he taught Scripture at institutions including St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, as well as other institutions. His engaging teaching profoundly impacted generations of students.
