We were delighted to welcome Her Excellency Ms. Melitta Schubert, Austrian Ambassador to Ireland to St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. As part of Ireland’s EU Presidency, Co. Kildare is twinned with Austria. During her visit the ambassador was able to explore the connections between St Patrick’s College and Austria further and got to see first-hand the gifts given to the college by Austrian Empress Elisabeth in the late 1800s, including a solid silver Venetian statue of St George slaying a Dragon and an exquisite set of shamrock embroidered vestments.
