Tuesday (Aug 25, 2026) was a very full and fruitful day at this year’s British New Testament Society Conference.

The eleven ongoing seminars (year to year) continued their deliberations on topics as diverse as the lateness of the composition of the Gospel of Luke, the reception of the New Testament in various contexts, and the relationship between ancient Greek and Roman biographies (bioi / vitae) and the earlier chapters of the Gospel of Matthew.

The day was crowned by a plenary lecture by Prof Garrick Allen (University of Glasgow) on the what the vast number of New Testament manuscripts (about 6000) might tell us not only about the transmission of the New Testament text, but about the very character of the New Testament itself.
