Donna Mae Linton, adjunct lecturer in the Pastoral Theology Department, Pontifical University, Maynooth recently attended a conference at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut. 

The conference and the pre-conference workshop entitled Making Justice: Practical Theology, The Arts, and Transformation was organised by the Association of Practical Theology (APT), a Related Scholarly Organisation of the American Academy of Religion - the thirty-fourth Biennial Conference of the organisation. 

A United States native who has lived in Ireland for fifteen years, she will offer her insights and analysis of the APT Conference in an upcoming article for The Furrow: "Making Justice: Practical Theology, The Arts and Transformation".

The Association of Practical Theology seeks to promote a “critical discourse that integrates theological reflection and practice” ( With a conference theme titled Making Justice: Practical Theology, The Arts and Transformation, keynote speakers incorporated the spoken word with song, painting and performance to provide the crucible for critical reflection and transformative just response. Educators, practitioners, scholars and doctoral students provided papers and/or performances over three parallel sessions incorporating the arts, theology and lived experience from contexts ranging from Maine and Great Britain to the Philippines, Haiti and the Mexican-American border. An ecumenical association with interfaith dimensions (one of the plenary speakers, Su’ad Abdul Khabeer is Muslim), there was a notable Catholic presence including Professor Thomas Groome, Boston College; Professor Edward Foley, Catholic Theological Union; Professor Kathleen Cahalan, St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary; Associate Professor Claire Wolfteich, Boston University; and Associate Professor Kimberly Vrudny, University of St. Thomas.
