The first anniversary of Fr Enda McDonagh’s death was marked last Sunday in the College Chapel, which was hosted by the President of St Patrick’s College, Fr Michael Mullaney. Fr Enda’s dignified funeral Vespers and Mass were watched online by over 9,000 family, friends, former students and admirers. Nevertheless, like for so many families and friends who lost a loved one, due to the public health restrictions in place at the time, we were unable to give Fr Enda the final farewell and recognition he deserved.

Fr McDonagh, born in Bekan, Co Mayo, attended St Jarlath’s College, Tuam and then St Patrick’s College Maynooth, from where he was ordained in 1955. Fr Enda’s first anniversary gives us an opportunity to remember a beloved priest, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and colleague and to recognise a respected teacher and theologian.
